Locomotive maintenance at Whitehead
All Photos by B McDonald

On the 23rd and 25th February 2006, some of the volunteers at Whitehead set about cleaning No. 186:

After some time, even the least visible areas of paintwork are nearly spotless. This is the connecting rod which connects the piston to the crank axle.

A few days later, 186 has been hauled out into the open to be cleaned in the light of the sun. You can see your face in the boiler paintwork, due to Paul's stirling efforts, not to mention the whistle and snifting valve, thanks to the work of David and Aaron!
The sun catches the gleaming inside motion.

Other volunteers were at work for the site department. Here, Alan, Maurice, Dermot and Jeff are at work on a point.

186 was much the better for her clean, and it was all the easier with the help of some new volunteers.
Why don't you come and join us?
