The Three Cities
A photo report by P Lockett.

The Three Cities was a steam train on Monday 29th May from Whitehead to Dublin (with 2-6-4T No.4) and return (with 0-6-0 No.186).
Two steam locomotives operating over 250 miles on an international mainline steam railtour.  You could have been enjoying this rare event.

No.4 and train wait at the outer home for the 09:30 Lisburn-Bangor to depart Platform 3 at Lisburn.

The train then pulls forward to the water tower for water.
NIR Fireman Gary Moore is in charge of the chain.  Pulling the chain releases the valve stopping the water from flowing down the bag.  Un-sympathetic pulling of the chain can soak the chain puller or the person directing the bag into the tank!

The person ensuring the bag and water go into No.4's tanks is RPSI Roster Clerk Mark Walsh.  His concentration comes from years of soaking experiences!  At least he has a warm fire to dry off beside.
RPSI Driver and Footplate Representative Brian Hill climbs aboard as the train prepares to pull forward into Lisburn Platform 2.

The train pulls away towards the crossover onto the Up line to Dublin, steam heat merrily blowing out the rear of the train.
Later in the day No.186 is in fine form as she coasts past Maze on her way home to Whitehead.  The locomotive has been in Dublin since the May Railtour.
