Itinerary

Whitehead Railway Museum

Price

£10 / £7

Come and spend your day with us in the picturesque seaside town of Whitehead where you will be transported back to the 1940s at our Whitehead Excursion Station. In every area of our 5-gallery Museum there will be something for you to see, learn about, and enjoy, from period vehicles to war time soldiers.

The Home Front Festival will begin at 10am, with the opening being conducted by the Veterans Pipe and Drum band (who will play again at 1pm).

Throughout the day we will have stalls on the platform and plenty of interactive wartime exhibits on show including Home Guard, US and German zones, military vehicles, period children’s activities and much more.

From 1pm, get your toes tapping on the platform with tunes from the era by the one and only singing trio The Victoty Rollers:

Try learning some moves with members of Swing Belfast and learn how to style your hair 1940s style with our very own hairdresser. But be careful - we have heard that there will be a spiv in your midst, trying to sell all sorts of black market products. Thankfully, the Home Guard are on hand to help control that rapscallion!

Trains every 30 minutes from 11am until 4pm on the hour and half hour (excluding 1pm). This is a short (10 to 15 minute) trip within our premises and is included in your ticket price. Trains will fill on a first come first served basis.

So, join us for our very first Home Front Festival - come in your period uniform, seamed stockings and victory rolls hairdo for a fun-filled day of nostalgia.

Platform 3 café will be open for hot and cold food and refreshments - if you have your ration book!

Tickets: Adult £10 / Child £7 / Family (2 adults and up to 3 children) £30
